Meeting and networking with similar minded people from all different industries really helped to see carbon issues from different points of view and see come commonality between us all. We are currently participating in the City of Perth’s Sustainable Business Leader Program and by doing the Green Business Skills workshop it has really helped clarify and reinforce many ideas for me. I found it particularly humbling that the staff at BGC were professional and also very accommodating and understanding from our Business Prospective, I would highly recommend the course to any business owners. It was a pleasure to attend and be certified for Green Business Skills. The main speaker was very learned in his field, and the BGC was involved in each group Last year in 2010 I was part of a new program launched by the Business Growth Centre, the “Green Business Skills Workshop”. I found that the start of the day with group work was excellent as it got the group thinking and work as a team straight away. The workshop was full of people who were very much interested in learning green business skills which made it more cohesive and the knowledge from different groups of people wanting to help the environment was excellent. My business runs towards becoming carbon neutral and eco-friendly and we take great interest in green programs. The main speaker Chris Doherty from Carbon Neutral was very learned in his field and explained in length what he does and how in the past 10 years Carbon Neutral has established a company based on making sustainability viable for everyone. He explained carbon use and yearly consumption of our carbon output which was an eye opener for everyone in the room. The one thing that’s important is that the Business Growth Centre was involved in each group as well; they worked with us as to say that not only they wanted to teach but learn from the group as well. The benefits are great and long-lasting! Like many smaller businesses we spend time running the store, not working on it. In some areas we were vulnerable, such as our OHS records, staff employment forms etc—now we have so much more about our business documented and in a policy and procedures manual, so we know that our key staff members could operate without either Gavin or I being there. When we decide to take on more staff and/or stores we have the systems in place that we can hand a manual to the new people and say “this is how we do it”. Would I do it again?
