About the Business Growth Centre

The Business Growth Centre began in 2008 as a West Australian state government initiative to encourage the success of small businesses. Research has shown that established small businesses are looking for guidance and training which is more specific than that of new business owners.

Originally called the Small Business Training Institute, we have now evolved into the Business Growth Centre. Developed by the Department of Training and Workforce Development, our aim is to offer affordable, accessible advice and training to all small business owners and managers.

We understand that different businesses have different requirements, and our diverse team of consultants, advisors and teachers are here to offer support and understanding to all the small businesses of Western Australia. We encourage you to look through the website and introduce yourself to our programs. Then, contact us, and see what we can do for you.

We offer a variety of support programs, which include:

Small Business Solutions® – This program was designed to give small business owners the advice and skills to make them thrive. It is impossible for a business owner to know everything. Often experts in their own fields, there is also areas that can use improvement. The Small Business Solutions® program, introduces business owners to qualified advisors. By working together they are able to address issues that need attention. Whether it is marketing, finances, staff issues or something else, our advisors are there to help.
Aboriginal Business Mentoring – Working with Aboriginal business owners across WA, the Business Growth Centre offers one-on-one mentoring and support to assist Aboriginal business owners in overcoming the challenges relevant to their businesses, allowing them to help their families and communities. The Business Growth Centre also runs Open Space Forums across WA, which enable participants to self-organise around their own interests and generate ideas and training opportunities in a casual, open space environment.
Green Business Skills – Caring for the environment need not be at odds with caring for your business. There are so many things that small businesses can do to improve their environmental impact that simultaneously make smart business sense, such as adopting simple procedural changes in recycling, water and energy usage. The Green Business Skills program offers suggestions to help make your business "greener" – not only can you save the planet, you can reduce your costs and increase your profits as you do so.

Business Theft Prevention – According a recent National Retail Security Survey, the number one source of shrinkage for a retail business is internal theft. Some of the types of employee theft include discount abuse, refund abuse and even credit card abuse. Unfortunately, this is one loss prevention area that generally doesn’t receive as much monitoring as customer theft. We have devised a program to tackle and address these particular issues while offering accredited training and offering business strategies to implement into everyday operations of the business.
